How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. This method works great if your wood is straight and smooth. Try dowel joinery instead if your wood doesn't look straight. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. Measure and mark the location where you would like to place the pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. You can sand the edges of the wood to ensure that it doesn't split.
  3. Glue the two sides of the wood together. Apply glue to both sides of the wood. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before clamping the pieces together.
  4. Attach the Pieces together. After the glue has dried thoroughly, secure the pieces so that they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries, trim any excess wood around your joint.

To be able to turn the pieces inside-out, leave enough room between them.
